Kenneth Howard

Born 1932 in London, Ken was a student at the Hornsey College of Art (1949-53) and also at the Royal College of Art (1955-58). Between art colleges, Ken undertook his National Service in the Royal Marines. Ken's prestigious roll of honour includes: Member in 1992 and Professor of Perspective in 2004 of the Royal Academy of Arts. Official Artist of the British Imperial War Museum (1973-1980), President of the New English Art Club (1998-2003), Honorary Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1988, Honorary Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1988, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2006, Appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's 2010 Birthday Honours. Ken's paintings are based on his close observation and high degree of draughtsmanship combined with superb tonal precision. His depiction of light is a strong and recurrent feature of his renowned artworks. His favourite and most famous subject is the nude model in his studio. Others are London and Venice scenes and Cornish seascapes with the emphasis placed on the reflection of light on water. Ken is without doubt one of the most gifted and accomplished artists of today. He has been awarded numerous prizes and held many one-man exhibitions worldwide. His paintings hang in many public, corporate and private collections throughout the world. Ken is an author and his work has been the subject of numerous published books and articles.
